KRIFY CASE STUDY

NO SIGNAL.

NO LIMITS.

JUST LANDCRUISER.

Toyota Australia wanted to celebrate what the Landcruiser is built for — going where the road, and the mobile signal, end. Krify designed and built a native iPhone app that rewards drivers with points the further into the Outback they travel, then ranks them on a live national leaderboard. Concept to launch in three months.

THE CHALLENGE —

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Reward "no signal" with no signal

Track and reward points in areas with absolutely no 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi availability.

Define "remote" across a continent

Target genuinely empty, outback zones — not just any spot without typical reception.

Stay fair and un-gameable

Resist cheating attempts while keeping the user experience completely effortless.

Connect app to platform

Feed a web-based rewards and leaderboard system that Toyota's team can manage.

OUR SOLUTION —

NO SIGNAL IS THE POINT

GPS reward engine

Award points based on where the driver actually goes — one point per minute on the road.

Geofenced Outback

Pre-defined remote zones tell a true expedition apart from regular highway drives.

No-signal multiplier

No 3G or Wi-Fi? Points double. The less connected you are, the faster you climb.

Platform integration

A robust PHP web app on LAMP with WordPress back end manages accounts and rewards.

KEY FEATURES

Every feature was built around one aim: make each drive feel worth taking, and give people a reason to open the app again the next weekend. That focus on real engagement is what turns a one-off promotional download into a rewards app drivers actually keep on their phone.

Real-time points that keep people hooked.

The home screen greets drivers with “You’ve left civilization!” and ticks their score up as they go. Turning raw GPS data into a live, visible reward is what gives the app its pull, and it is the kind of detail we sweat on every iOS app development project.

A rewards map worth exploring

Rather than a vague promise of points somewhere out there, the app charts real routes and distances, from the Anne Beadell Highway to the 1,324 km run between Laverton and Coober Pedy, so drivers have a genuine reason to plan a trip into Landcruiser country.

A leaderboard built for rivalry

Ranked by state and refreshed every few minutes, the leaderboard tapped straight into the competitive streak of four-wheel-drive owners and kept them coming back to defend their place.

 Sharing that spreads the campaign

One-tap Facebook and Twitter sharing meant every climb up the ladder doubled as free promotion, pushing the campaign well beyond the drivers who first signed up.

How the App Works

The experience comes down to a simple loop that anyone can pick up in seconds. A driver signs up, heads out on the road, and the app quietly tracks the journey in the background. As they push further into the Outback and the mobile signal fades, their points climb faster. Back in range, they can open the national leaderboard, see how they compare with drivers in other states, and share the result. It is a small idea executed with care, and getting the location logic to behave reliably in the most remote corners of the country is where most of the effort in a geofencing app development project like this one goes.

RESULTS & IMPACT

A gamified rewards app that turned every off-grid journey into a reason to come back.

This is where the campaign’s performance belongs, the numbers that show the app did its job. We can slot your real figures in here as soon as you have them; for a gamified rewards app like this one, the metrics usually worth leading with are:

MORE DOWNLOADS

High app downloads & completed sign-ups.

ACTIVE DRIVERS

Thousands of active drivers engaged weekly.

KM OFF-GRID

Countless kilometers driven in remote zones.

TOP RATED APP

Strong App Store rating, social shares & press.

Send across whatever data you have and we will write this section around it. If firm numbers are not on hand, we can speak to the outcome in plain terms instead: a national launch for one of Australia’s biggest car brands, and an app that gave Landcruiser owners a real reason to get out and drive.
